# For Fifth Wheel Owners

> The front cap is the fifth wheel's defining problem. It carries the tallest exposure in the towable class and takes weather first, and a released cap radius is a cap replacement rather than an injection on any class. That single threshold runs $4,500 to $25,000.

## Why the front cap fails first

Water enters at the front cap to sidewall seam and the upper deck transition, then runs behind the cap radius and surfaces in the bedroom floor or the front storage bay ceiling.

By the time it shows up inside, it has usually travelled the full height of the cap.

## Flat wall still rebonds

Flat sidewall under about ten square feet still rebonds by injection on a fifth wheel. It is the radius that does not, because the curve will not hold pressure during cure.

That distinction is worth understanding before authorizing anything, because a shop quoting an injection on a released radius is quoting a repair that fails.

## Pin box and coupler

Hitch and coupler service runs $400 to $5,500. On a fifth wheel this is a structural connection carrying the whole front of the trailer, not an accessory.

Toy hauler fifth wheels add the ramp door, its cables and springs, and the rear wall that carries the load.

## Questions

### Can a fifth wheel front cap be repaired instead of replaced?

Gelcoat cracks and impact fractures in the molded surface, yes, at $750 to $12,000. A released bond in the cap radius, no. That threshold is structural and it is measured at evaluation.

### Why does my fifth wheel bedroom floor feel soft?

Most often water that entered at the front cap seam and ran behind the cap radius. The stain and the entry point are rarely in the same place, which is why the evaluation maps the whole run.

### Do half ton towable fifth wheels have more delamination?

They show it earlier. Lighter construction means thinner laminate, and thinner laminate releases sooner under the same moisture exposure.
