## The five common entry points

Window flanges, where the butyl has aged and shrunk back from the frame.

The roof to sidewall joint, which is the single highest volume path on a laminated coach.

Roof penetrations: vents, fans, antennas, solar mounts and anything added after the coach left the factory.

Marker and clearance lights, which are small, numerous and rarely inspected.

Slide seals, particularly once a failed topper has put debris into the wipe.

## Where it surfaces

At the floor to wall joint on stick and tin construction, because the water wicks down the stud bay.

In the bedroom floor or the front bay ceiling on a fifth wheel, having run behind the cap radius.

As a bulge or hollow area in the sidewall on a laminated coach, well below the entry.

As an electrical fault on a van or fleet body, because the water reaches the harness raceway before it reaches anything visible.

## What an evaluation does about it

Moisture mapping traces the run rather than the stain, and the released area gets measured rather than estimated.

That measurement is what decides rebond against panel replacement, and it is the difference between a repair that holds and one that comes back.

### Can I find an RV leak myself with a hose?

A hose test can confirm an entry point you already suspect. It is poor at finding one you have not, because the path inside the wall is not visible and water can travel several feet before it appears.

### How urgent is a small water stain in an RV ceiling?

Urgent. By the time it is visible inside, the path has usually been running for a while and the luan behind it is already taking damage. Roof reseal at $750 to $4,500 is dramatically cheaper than subfloor work at $750 to $15,000.
