Deductibles and What You Actually Pay Out of Pocket

Out of pocket is the deductible plus any line item the carrier declines that you elect to repair anyway. Deposits are not extra cost, they are timing: 50 percent at authorization on jobs over $2,000, and a further 25 percent when parts arrive on jobs over $10,000.

The deductible

Paid at pickup, not at drop off. It applies once per claim rather than per line item.

If the priced evaluation comes in near or under the deductible, paying direct usually beats putting a claim on the record. The evaluation is what tells you which case you are in, and it is credited back if you proceed.

Declined line items

Carriers decline items they consider wear, age or pre existing. You can accept the decline, dispute it with documentation, or have the work done at your own cost.

The shop will price a declined item separately so the decision is on a real number.

Deposits, payment and the surcharge

Jobs over $2,000 take a 50 percent deposit at authorization. Jobs over $10,000 take a further 25 percent when parts arrive.

Final balance is due at pickup, and no vehicle leaves the property until it is paid in full. Card payments over $1,000 carry a 3.5 percent surcharge, which passes the merchant fee through rather than burying it in the labor rate.

Sales tax of 7.75 percent applies to parts and materials. Labor is not taxed.

Common questions

Do I pay the deposit if insurance is covering the repair?

On a carrier billed job the deposit structure is generally handled against the carrier authorization rather than your card. Your out of pocket remains the deductible and any declined items.

Is the evaluation fee refunded if I do not repair?

No. It is credited against an authorized repair, which means it comes off the invoice if you proceed. If you decide not to repair, the evaluation stands as a priced service you received.

Why does paying by card carry a surcharge here?

Merchant fees on a five figure repair are real money. The surcharge over $1,000 passes that cost to the transaction that creates it instead of raising the posted labor rate for everyone.
