For RV and Motorhome Owners
The three things that cost motorhome owners the most are delamination caught late, a released cap radius, and a roof interval that slipped. All three are moisture path problems, and all three are cheaper to catch at evaluation than at teardown.
Delamination is a clock, not an event
A released laminate does not stop spreading. Water travels down the luan backer and surfaces well below the entry point, which is why the bulge you can see is rarely where the problem started.
Under roughly twelve square feet with dry luan, a Class A wall rebonds by injection. Past that, or with the luan gone to pulp, it becomes a skin panel replacement, and the cost difference is frequently five figures.
The roof interval is the cheapest insurance there is
Roof recoat and reseal runs $750 to $4,500. Membrane replacement runs $3,500 to $18,000, and water damage subfloor work on top of that runs $750 to $15,000.
Coaches stored under trees, which in this market means most of the Whittier Hills side, need a shorter interval than coaches stored in the open.
Coaches total earlier than owners expect
Depreciation on a motorhome is steep while sidewall repair is labor dominated, and labor does not depreciate. A ten year old coach with a released front cap can carry a repair number close to what the coach is worth.
Document upgrades. Solar, lithium, awnings and interior work are real value that a generic valuation misses, and they are what a total loss argument gets made on.
Common questions
How often does a coach roof need resealing in this climate?
Annually for inspection and as needed for recoat, and shorter than that for a coach stored under tree cover. Sealant fails on a schedule set by sun and debris rather than by mileage.
Will a carrier pay for delamination on a coach?
If it results from a covered loss such as an impact, generally yes. Delamination from age, a failed seal or deferred maintenance is usually owner pay. The evaluation tells you which case you have before you file.
Should I repair a coach the carrier wants to total?
Price it before deciding. A retained salvage settlement on a structurally sound coach with cosmetic damage is sometimes the better outcome, and it is worth a priced evaluation to find out.
Where to go next
Scope boundary
What this shop does not take
No mobile service. Every job happens at the facility.
No roadside assistance and no on site evaluation.
No engine rebuild and no internal engine machining.
No transmission rebuild and no drivetrain overhaul.
No DOT inspection and no DOT certification.
No emission testing and no emission certification.
No telematics installation and no fleet software.
No fleet consulting and no driver training programs.
Everything above is work OCRV Center declines rather than work it performs poorly. The facility is a body, paint, structural and onboard systems shop, and it is an in shop operation.
Bring it in
Insurance walk ins are welcome. The teardown hour is priced at $210 and credited against an authorized repair, so the evaluation is not a cost you lose if the work proceeds.
