Filing an RV or Fleet Claim: What to Have Ready First
Have the policy number, date and location of loss, a written description of cause, photographs of the whole vehicle rather than just the damage, the VIN and the current odometer. Carriers move faster on a complete first notice, and an incomplete one costs days.
What to gather
Policy number and the named insured exactly as written on the declarations page.
Date, time and location of the loss, plus a written description of cause recorded the same day.
Photographs: all four corners, the roof, both sides, the interior, the damage in context and the damage in detail, plus the odometer.
VIN, year, make, model and floor plan. On a coach the floor plan changes the parts.
Any police or incident report number.
What to say and what to leave alone
Describe what happened. Do not characterize fault, and do not speculate about what the policy covers, because the carrier applies the policy and an early guess can frame the file badly.
If asked whether you have a shop, you can say yes and name one. In California the choice is yours.

OCRV Center is at 23281 La Palma Ave, Yorba Linda, about twenty minutes from Whittier down the I-605. Insurance walk ins are welcome and no appointment is needed to start a teardown.
The teardown hour is $210 and it is credited against an authorized repair.

How long do I have to file an RV claim?
Policies set their own notice window and it varies, but the practical answer is immediately. Delay makes cause harder to establish and gives the carrier a reason to question post loss damage.
Do I need a police report for an RV collision?
For a collision involving another party, yes, get one. For a stationary loss such as a fallen branch or a storage lot impact, photographs and a same day written description carry the file.
Can I start repairs before the adjuster sees it?
Do not. Start the priced teardown, which documents rather than repairs, and let the adjuster inspect the exposed structure. Repairing first forfeits the evidence.
