Glossary: The Vocabulary This Shop Actually Uses
These are the terms that decide what a repair costs. Most of them describe the sidewall and how water moves through it, because on a coach that is where the money is. Each definition is written to be usable rather than merely correct.
Why the vocabulary matters on a claim
An adjuster writes line items against operations, and an owner who can name the condition can check whether the operation matches it.
The three terms worth learning before anything else are released area, crossover point and moisture path. Between them they decide whether a wall is rebonded or replaced, which is frequently a five figure difference.
Common questions
How does delamination differ from a soft spot?
Delamination is the bond releasing between skin and core, felt as a bulge or a hollow sound. A soft spot is usually the subfloor or the luan backer having taken water and lost structure. They often occur together and they are repaired differently.
What does released area mean on an estimate?
The measured square footage over which the adhesive bond has failed. It is the number that decides repair against replacement, and it should be measured at evaluation rather than estimated from the visible bulge.
Is filon the same as fiberglass?
Filon is a fiberglass reinforced panel used as a thin exterior skin. A molded cap is a much thicker fiberglass moulding. They behave differently under both impact and delamination, which is why they are named separately here.
