Repair or Replace: Where the Threshold Actually Sits
The call is structural rather than financial. On a laminated coach wall, injection rebonding holds under roughly twelve square feet of released area with dry luan. Past that, or with the luan gone to pulp, the skin panel gets replaced. Each vehicle class publishes its own threshold.
Why the threshold differs by coach class
A Class A sidewall is a six layer laminate with a full face urethane glue line. A truck camper wall is a thin composite with almost nothing to rebond. A steel van wall has no laminate at all and gets sectioned instead.
That is why every vehicle program on this site publishes its own layer stack, bond system, moisture path and crossover point rather than a single generic rule.
What pushes a repair into a replacement
Released area past the class threshold.
Wet or pulped luan backer, which will not take adhesive.
A released cap radius, which is a cap replacement rather than an injection on any class.
Perforated structure, where filler over the hole is cosmetic rather than a repair.
Corroded studs or ribs, which means the wall opens regardless of what the skin looks like.
What the carrier does with that
Carriers pay for the repair the vehicle needs, documented. A replacement written without the moisture map and the released area measurement gets questioned, and reasonably so.
The priced evaluation exists to produce that documentation before anyone argues about the number.
Common questions
Does panel replacement always cost more than a rebond?
Usually, but not always, and not always by much. A large multi injection rebond with a long cure sequence can approach a panel replacement in labor, and the replacement lasts longer. The measured released area decides it.
Can I just have the visible damage repaired to save money?
You can, and on a released laminate it typically fails again within a season or two as the moisture path continues. The shop will state plainly when that is the case.
Who decides, me or the shop?
You authorize. The shop documents the structural condition and states which side of the threshold it falls on, with the measurement behind it, so the decision is yours on real information.
Scope boundary
What this shop does not take
No mobile service. Every job happens at the facility.
No roadside assistance and no on site evaluation.
No engine rebuild and no internal engine machining.
No transmission rebuild and no drivetrain overhaul.
No DOT inspection and no DOT certification.
No emission testing and no emission certification.
No telematics installation and no fleet software.
No fleet consulting and no driver training programs.
Everything above is work OCRV Center declines rather than work it performs poorly. The facility is a body, paint, structural and onboard systems shop, and it is an in shop operation.
Bring it in
Insurance walk ins are welcome. The teardown hour is priced at $210 and credited against an authorized repair, so the evaluation is not a cost you lose if the work proceeds.
